Lady Mules vs. Dimmitt &
Slaton (12-19&22-2017)
The Lady Mules traveled to
Dimmitt Tuesday evening and pounded Bobbies 65-23. Friday afternoon the Lady
Mules hosted the Slaton Tigerettes and went down to defeat 43-22.
The Lady Mules got off to a
fast start with a 21-5 first period against Dimmitt. Keely Dunham led the
charge for the Lady Mules by scoring seven points in the opening quarter.
Brianna Barron was close behind with six points.
Alyssa Wheeler dropped in a
pair of shots, and Anahi Barrera chipped in a couple of free throws for two
points.
Full-court pressure by the
Lady Mules kept Dimmitt off balance all four quarters.
The Lady Mules backed off
some in the second and third periods with 13 points in each quarter. Lilly
Barrera sank the Lady Mules only trey in the second period. Barron, A. Barrera,
and Dunham made two points each.
Yvonne Diaz sank a free throw
to open the second quarter and added a hoop from the paint later in the half.
Wheeler chipped in a free throw. The Lady Mules led 34-10 at the intermission.
Following the half, the Lady
Mules spread the scoring around. Cassidy Cage, Barron, A. Barrera, Brooke
Garza, Wheeler, and Dunham scored two points each. Kyndal Miller chipped in one
free throw. The Lady Mules led 47-15 with one period left to play.
Cage led off the final frame
with a hoop. Diaz scored a pair of baskets from the paint and added two free
throws. Dunham was fouled in the act of shooting. She made the basket and added
the ensuing free throw. Barron made a pair of free throws, and A. Barrera
chipped in one charity toss.
All nine Lady Mules scored
during the game. Dunham paced the Lady Mules with 14 points. Barron was just
off that pace with 12 points, and Wheeler finished with 11 points. Diaz added
nine points, and A. Barrera had seven points. Cage made four points, L. Barrera
three points, and Miller chipped in one point.
The Slaton guests were not
kind to their hosts and ran out to an early lead over the Lady Mules. Slaton
led 15-9 after one quarter and never looked back after that. The Tigerettes
outscored the Lady Mules 11-5 in the second period, 8-6 in the third frame and
9-2 in the final eight minutes.
Lilly Barrera made the Lady
Mules only 3-pointer of the game. L. Barrera and Barron led the Lady Mules with
five points each. A. Barrera and Wheeler dropped in four points each. Diaz
finished with three points, and Barron chipped in one point.
The Lady Mules will enjoy
their Christmas break. The 2-2 Lady Mules will travel to Friona to play the 1-3
Squaws January 5. The Lady Mules return home to host the Shallowater Fillies
January 9.
