8th Mules vs. Roosevelt (12-18-2017)

The eighth-grade Roosevelt Eagles made a run at the Mules in the final quarter, but the Mules held off the Eagles to take the game 32-25.

Dok Gardner put the Mules in front to stay with a free throw one minute into the game. Evan Lopez was fouled on a put-back attempt and made one charity toss. Jeremiah Barron made back-to-back 3-pointers from the top of the key to extend the Mule lead to 8-2 after one quarter.

The Eagles scored the first three points of the second quarter to trim the Mule lead to 8-5. Gardner broke the Mule scoring drought with a 10-foot baseline jumper. A little over a minute later he chipped in a free throw.

Daniel Avila passed to Gardner at the elbow, and he sank the 15-footer. The Mules led 13-9 at the intermission.

Gardner led Mule fast break early in the third quarter for a layup. Victor Marlas was fouled while shooting and made one free throw. Nathen Ferguson made two points from the left elbow. Zack Hasley sank a 15-foot jumper to put the Mules in front 20-13.

Hasley led a fast break to open the final frame with a layup. Barron led a second fast break, and he stopped and popped from six feet. Barron then picked off an Eagle pass and sent the ball ahead to Lopez for an easy layup.

The Mules continued to fast break when Barron made the pass to Daniel Avila for an easy two points. Hasley was fouled while shooting with a minute remaining in the game. He converted both free throws. Ferguson made the Mules final basket with a shot from the right elbow.

Barron and Gardner paced the Mules with eight points each. Hasley finished with six points. Ferguson dropped in four points, and Lopez added three points. Avila made two points. and Marlas chipped in one point.

The Mules will host the Littlefield Wildcats when they return from Christmas break January 8. The Mules will play in the Levelland Tournament January 11 and 13, and then will travel to Idalou to play the Wildcats January 15.
