9th Lady Mules vs. Dimmitt (1-22-2018)
The freshmen Lady Mules pulled out a win Monday over
the Dimmitt Bobbies. The Bobbies led by one point at the end of the first half.
The Lady Mules kept the game under control and defeated the Bobbies 32-30.
Kaitlyn Kelley put back an offensive rebound for the
Lady Mules first points of the game. She later took a feed from Jordan Zapata
for a short jumper. Zapata drove the lane for a layup. She later hit a short
jumper. Destiny Florez took an assist from Zapata for a 15-foot jump shot. The
Lady Mules trailed Dimmitt 11-10 after one quarter.
The Lady Mules all but shut down the Bobbies in the
second period. Florez sank a jump shot from the wing. Danielle Moran took a
feed from Zapata for a hoop. The Lady Mules continued to trail the Bobbies at
the half. Dimmitt led 15-14 at the intermission.
Zapata made a driving layup to open the third
period. Grace Leal hit from near the baseline and Florez sank a 12-foot jumper.
Kristina Arzola had the hot hand in the third period. She made a steal and
drove to the hoop. Later she made two short jumpers. The Lady Mules took the
lead, 27-26, with one quarter remaining to play.
The Lady Mule defense held Dimmitt down in the final
period. Zapata opened the final period with a charity toss. She later sank a
short jumper. Arzola finished with a shot from the elbow.
Zapata led the Lady Mules with nine points and five
assists. Arzola made all eight of her points in the second half. Florez dropped
in six points, and Kelley finished with four points. Moran had three points,
and Leal chipped in two points.
The Lady Mules traveled to Slaton Monday to play the
Tigerettes. The Lady Mules will complete their season at home against the
Friona Maidens February 5.
