8th Lady Mules vs. Idalou (1-18-2018)
The eighth-grade Lady Mules had their game with the
Idalou Lady Cats well in hand Monday evening in the first half. The Lady Mules
led 19-8 at the intermission. But an injury to a player and mounting fouls gave Idalou the upper hand in the second
half.
The Lady Mules lost to Idalou 32-26.
Alina Elizarraraz hit a 15-foot jump shot and just
over a minute later hit from 12 feet for the Lady Mules’ first four points.
Paige Parker drove the lane for a layup to give the Lady Mules a 6-4 lead after
one quarter.
Kylee Villa sank a 16-foot jumper off the glass and
repeated the feet from the opposite wing. Parker struck from behind the arc to
put the Lady Mules on top 13-4. Parker grabbed a long defensive rebound and
sent the ball ahead to Genesis Vasquez. Parker hustled down the floor and took
a bounce pass from Vasquez for a layup.
Parker made back-to-back layups to end the first
half with the Lady Mules leading 19-8.
Idalou made two treys and a two-pointer to cut the
Lady Mule lead to 19-16 in the first two minutes of the second half. Parker
answered with a trey from the top of the key. The Lady Cats scored the next
eight points to take the lead for good with a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Idalou led
24-22 at the end of three periods.
Kayla Soto hit a short jumper with under three
minutes to play in the game. Villa made a steal in the final minute and pushed
the ball ahead to Parker for a layup.
Parker led the Lady Mules with 16 points. Elizarraraz
and Villa added four points each. Soto chipped in two points.
The Lady Mules hosted the Dimmitt Bobbies Monday,
and then travel to Slaton to play the Tigerettes January 29. The Lady Mules
will return home February 5 to host the Friona Maidens in the final game of the
season.
