JV Mules vs. Dimmitt (1-23-2018)
The JV Mules jumped high and hard on the Dimmitt
Bobcats Tuesday evening. The Mules raced out to a 15-3 lead in the first period
and then held on for a 39-29 win over the Bobcats.
Jimmy Villa got the Mules started by completing and
old-fashion-three-point play by converting the free throw. He later put back an
offensive rebound and then made a short jump shot for six points in the opening
period.
Carter McCamish drove the lane for a hoop and near
the end of the period stole a Bobcat pass and drove to the basket. Nick
Zaragoza hit a 10-foot jump shot, and Kelan Florez put back an offensive
rebound. The Mules led Dimmitt 15-3 after one quarter.
The Mules outscored Dimmitt 8-7 in the second
period. Jose Cardenas scored from near the blocks to open the quarter. Ricky
Diaz hit from near the elbow, and Bryan Ginez put back an offensive rebound. He
also scored from near the blocks. The Mules led 23-10 at the half.
Dimmitt cut three points off the Mule lead in the
third quarter. Cardenas made a steal and laid the ball up on the glass.
Christian Bustillos took a long rebound and drove the floor for a basket. Ginez
put back an offensive rebound and then scored from the blocks at the buzzer. The
Mules led 31-21 with one quarter left to play.
Florez led off the final period with a basket. Villa
made a hoop and added two from the charity line. Bustillos and McCamish chipped
in a free throw each.
Villa led the Mules with 11 points. Ginez finished
with eight points, and McCamish added five points. Florez and Cardenas dropped
in four points each. Bustillos made three points. Zaragoza and Diaz chipped in
two points each.
The Mules hosted the Friona Chiefs Tuesday evening and will travel to Shallowater February
2 to play the Mustangs.
