JV Mules vs. Dimmitt

The JV Mules came up just
short of the Dimmitt Bobcats Tuesday evening in Dimmitt 45-47. The Mules had
taken the lead in the third period, 29-25, but could not hold it in the final
period.
Jimmy Villa, Kelan Florez,
and Jose Cardenas scored a basket each in the opening period. Bryan Ginez also
scored a basket and then made a pair of free throws. The Mules trailed 13-10
after one quarter.
The Mules fell no farther
behind despite not scoring until only two-and-half minutes were remaining in
the second frame. Derek Barron finally made a layup for the Mules, and he later
added a second basket. Ginez scored before the half ended.
Dimmitt led the Mules 19-16
at the half.
The Mules outscored Dimmitt
13-6 in the third period to lead the Bobcats 29-25. Ginez made a pair of
charity tosses to crank the Mules after the half. Carter McCamish drove
coast-to-coast for a layup. Yoel Reyes made a short jumper and later hit from
behind the arc for a trey. Florez made a pair from the charity line, and Nick
Zaragoza made one.
Dimmitt outran the Mules
22-16 to the finish line for the win.
Cardenas made the Mules first
basket and dropped in a second hoop before the game ended. Florez made three
buckets and chipped in a free throw during the final eight minutes.
Reyes sank his second trey of
the night, and Ricky Diaz put back an offensive rebound for the final two
points.
Florez paced the Mules with
eleven points. Reyes added nine points, and Ginez dropped in eight points.
Cardenas finished with six points, and Barron made four points. Villa, Diaz,
and McCamish had two points each. Zaragoza chipped in one point.
