9th Lady Mules vs. Ama. Caprock (1-15-2018)
The freshmen Lady Mules rolled over an Amarillo
Caprock Lady Longhorn team as Idalou does not have a freshmen girls’ team. The
Lady Mules defeated the Lady Longhorns 28-8.
The Lady Mules held Amarillo scoreless in the first
period. Kaitlyn Kelley opened the scoring with a shot from the elbow. Danielle
Moran picked a Lady Longhorn’s pocket and drove to the hoop. Grace Leal sank
and 18-foot jumper from the right wing to put the Lady Mules on top 6-0 at the
end of the first quarter.
Leal drove the right side for a layup to begin the
second period. Heather Chavez made a reverse layup, and Moran scored on an
inbounds play to end the first half with the Lady Mules leading 12-4.
Destiny Florez scored from 15 feet, and Leal dropped
in a shot from the right wing. The Lady Mules led 16-8 after three quarters.
Caprock could not find the hoop in the final period.
Kelley scored on an inbound play to open the final quarter. Jordan Zapata
finished a fast break for a hoop. Leal sank a 16-foot jumper from the right
wing. Carina Sainez banked a 12-foot jumper off the glass.
Kelley dropped in a 15-foot jump shot, and Zapata
made a running jumper off the glass.
Leal paced the Lady Mule with eight points. Kelley
dropped in six points. Moran and Zapata added four points each. Florez, Chavez,
and Sainez finished wished two points each.
The Lady Mules hosted the Dimmitt Bobbies Monday evening and will travel to Slaton to play the
Tigerettes January 29. The Lady Mules will return home February 5 to host the
Friona Maidens for the final game of the season.
