JV Lady Mules vs. Littlefield & Idalou

The JV Lady Mules started slowly in their opening game of district play against the
Littlefield Lady Cats Tuesday night in the New Muleshoe High School Gymnasium.
But the Lady Mules stepped up their defense, and the offense fed off the
defense for a 40-19 win for a 1-0 district record.
The Idalou Lady Cats turned the tables on the Lady
Mules. The Lady Mules dropped to 1-1 in the district
with a 57-18 loss to Idalou.
Maddison Price scored with a short baseline jumper
five minutes into the game. Joceline Ramirez added a second hoop late in the first quarter. The Lady Mules trailed
Littlefield 4-5 after one period.
The Lady Mules took over the game in the second
frame. Citlalli Vargez opened the period with a hoop with an assist from Kinsey
Parker. She later chipped in a free throw. Kayla Torres made two baskets as did
Parker. Valeri Toscano dropped in one hoop. The Lady Mules outscored
Littlefield 13-7 to take a 17-12 to the dressing room at the half.
The Lady Mule defense was relentless in the third
period and held the Lady Cats scoreless. Vargez
caught fire with three hoops in the quarter and Price made a pair of hoops and
sank a charity toss. The Lady Mules extended their lead to 28-12 with one
quarter left to play.
Emili Mora opened the quarter with a basket. Price
dropped in a pair of hoops. Anna Phillips, Ramirez, and Vargez made a basket
each.
Vargez and Price led the Lady Mules with 11 points
each. Parker, Torres, and Ramirez dropped in four points apiece. Mora, Toscano,
and Phillips chipped in two points each.
Vargez made two hoops in the opening quarter against
Idalou. Perla Vasquez and Price made a basket each. The Lady Mules trailed 19-8
after the first quarter.
Jordan Zapata was moved up to the JV for Friday’s
game and second the Lady Mules first basket in the second quarter. Torres
chipped in a free throw and made a bucket. Price finished with a charity toss.
The Lady Mules trailed 33-14 at the half.
Parker made the Lady Mules only hoop of the third
period. Idalou led the Lady Mules 44-16 with one period left to play.
Zapata made the Lady Mules’ only hoop of the final
period.
Zapata and Vasquez led the Lady Mules with four
points each. Price and Torres dropped in three points apiece. Parker and
Vasquez chipped in two points each.
The Lady Mules traveled to Dimmitt Tuesday evening
to play the Bobbies and will host the Slaton Lady Tigers Friday night to close
out the 2017 portion of their season. The Lady Mules will return to action
January 5 when they travel to Friona.
