8th Mules vs. Friona (12-4-2017)
The eighth-grade Mules stuck close to the Friona
Braves in the opening period Monday, but could not maintain the pace in the
final three quarters. The Mules fell to the Braves 43-18.
Daniel Avila sank a trey from the left wing to give
the Mules a 3-2 lead one minute into the game. The Braves scored the next four
points before Dylan Watkins dropped in a 3-pointer from the left wing to tie
the game at 6-6. Jeremiah Barron scored on an inbounds play for the final two
points of the first quarter. The Mules trailed 8-9 after one frame.
Watkins hit an 18-foot baseline jumper to open the
second quarter. The Braves scored the next 11 points to lead the Mules 20-10
with 42 seconds left in the first half.
Watkins drained his second trey of the half. Friona led the Mules 21-13 at the
intermission.
Dok Gardner finished a fast break for the Mules only
two points of the third period. The Mules trailed 15-29 with one quarter left
to play.
Watkins sank a 3-pointer from the left wing for the
Mules only points in the final quarter.
Watkins led the Mules in scoring with three treys
for 11 points. Avila made a trey in the
first period for his three points. Barron and Gardner finished with two points
each.
The Mules traveled to Shallowater Monday to play
the Mustangs. They will play in the Bovina Invitational Tournament December 14
and 16. The Mules return home December 18 to host the Roosevelt Eagles before
taking off for t
