7th Mules vs. Roosevelt (12-18-2017)

7th Mules vs. Roosevelt (12-18-2017)

Lubbock Roosevelt’s seventh-grade Eagles could not keep up with the Mules Monday afternoon. The Mules scored early and often to take an 11-4 lead in the opening period and cruised to a 34-19 win.

The Eagles opened the game with a three-point play and then added a free throw for a 4-0 lead. Irvin Torres made a driving layup with just 2:40 remaining in the first period. Cash Reeder tied the game with a 10-foot baseline jumper at 4-4.

The Mules clamped down their full-court pressure, and the Eagles began to turn the ball over. Torres picked and Eagles’ pocket and drove for a hoop. Tate Shipman made a skip pass to Reeder for a 12-foot jump shot. Uriel Ramirez sank a 3-pointer from the left wing to put the Mules on top 11-4 after one quarter.

Frankie Reyes put back an offensive rebound for the Mules only second-period points. But the Mule defense held the Eagles to just four points and led 13-8 at the half.

The Eagles scored the first three points of the second half until Elisar Cisneros lined up a trey from the right wing with two and half minutes left in the third frame. Shipman made an inbound pass to Nic Reyes, and he scored on the inbound play. The Mules led 18-15 with one quarter left to play.

Roosevelt cut the Mule lead to 18-17 before F. Reyes picked off an Eagle pass and drove the floor for a layup. Twenty-five seconds later he sank a 15-foot baseline jumper. Davian McMullen was just inside the arc when he let his shot fly. The net popped and the Mules led 26-19 with three minutes remaining in the game.

Justin Dyck then drove the baseline like it was the road home for a layup. Torres passed to Reeder, and he hit from 15 feet. Torres then made the toss to N. Reyes on the blocks, and he turned for a short jumper. N. Reyes put back an offensive rebound for the Mules’ final two points.

N. Reyes, F. Reyes, Torres, and Reeder paced the Mules with six points each. Cisneros and Ramirez dropped in a 3-pointer each. McMullin and Dyck chipped in two points each.

The Mules are currently on Christmas break but will hit the hardwoods January 8 when they host the Littlefield Wildcats. They will play in the Levelland Invitational Tournament January 11 and 13.
