Lady Mules vs. Littlefield & Idalou (1-16&19-2018)
The Lady Mules missed Yvonne Diaz Tuesday evening in
Littlefield against the Lady Cats. The Lady Mules trailed by 10 points after
three quarters to a team they had defeated 52-21 in the first round of district
play.
The Lady Mules outscored Littlefield 13-7 in the
final period but could not climb out of the hole. The Lady Mules fell to
Littlefield 44-40.
Friday, the Lady Mules played host to the league-leading Idalou Lady Cats and went down
to defeat 61-40.
Keely Dunham was fouled attempting to shoot in the
first 10 seconds of the game. She made both charity tosses and later added a
basket. Brooke Garza scored from near the blocks, and Kyndal Miller made a
driving layup. Lilly Barrera lined up a shot from outside the arc and let the
ball fly. When the ball cleared the net,
the Lady Mules led 11-10 at the end of the first period.
Littlefield took over the game in the second period
and outscored the Lady Mules 18-9 by making six-of-seven free throws.
Alyssa Wheeler made a charity toss to open the
second quarter and later chipped in a second. Garza made one from the free
throw line, and Anahi Barrera made a pair of free throws. Miller led the Lady
Mules with two hoops. The Lady Mules trailed Littlefield 28-20.
Neither team could get going in the third quarter,
but Dunham made a pair of short jump shots and chipped in a free throw. Brianna
Barron picked a Lady Cats’ pocket and drove for a layup. The Lady Mules ended
the third period trailing 37-27.
L. Barrera made her second trey of the night from
the left wing. Barron slide through the defense for a layup and Wheeler made a pair of jump shots. Dunham scored from the
blocks and chipped in a pair of charity
tosses.
Dunham led the Lady Mules with 13 points. Wheeler,
L. Barrera, and Miller made six points each. Barron finished with four points,
Garza made three points, and A. Barrera chipped in a pair of free throws.
Idalou rained four 3-pointers on the Lady Mules in
the opening period.
Miller drove to the hoop to get the Lady Mules
started, and took a pass from Garza for a second hoop. Wheeler dropped in a
trey from the wing, and A. Barrera chipped in a free throw. L. Barrera hit a
15-foot jumper. The Lady Mules trailed 18-10 after one quarter.
L. Barrera sank a 3-pointer, and Cassidy Cage scored
from the left wing. A. Barrera chipped in a free throw. The Lady Mules were
down 30-16 at the intermission.
A. Barrera finally got the Lady Mules started after
the break with a free throw four minutes into the third quarter. Miller battled
her way through a foul to make a basket. She then converted the free throw for
an old fashion three-point play. L. Barrera sank back-to-back 3-pointers, and
Barron chipped in a free throw. The Lady Mules trailed 48-27 with one period
left to play.
Wheeler sank an 18-foot jumper, and then fought through a foul for a layup. She converted the
subsequent free throw. Dunham scored her only basket from the blocks. L.
Barrera scored three hoops in the final period.
L. Barrera led the Lady Mules with 17 points.
Wheeler dropped in eight points, and Miller followed with seven points. Garza
added three points. Dunham and Cage finished with two points each, and Barron
chipped in one point.
The 3-6 Lady Mules are currently tied for fifth
place in the district with the Littlefield Lady Cats.
The Lady Mules hosted the 0-9 Dimmitt Bobbies
Tuesday evening and will travel to Slaton
January 26 to play the fourth play 4-5 Tigerettes. The Lady Mules must win both
games to have hopes of making the 2018 post season.
